How We Design a Homepage Free Before You Pay (Our Exact Process)
Choosing a web team is largely guesswork. You look at a portfolio of other people’s projects and hope yours turns out the same. We would rather remove the guess: we design your homepage first, you see it, and only then do you decide whether to work with us.
Why we do it this way
A homepage is where a website either works or does not. If we can get that right for your business before any money changes hands, the rest of the project is a known quantity for both of us. If we get it wrong, you have lost a conversation rather than a deposit.
Step 1 — A short call
Thirty minutes. What you sell, who buys it, what makes them choose you over the next option, and what the site has to achieve — enquiries, bookings, orders. We are looking for the one thing the page must communicate before anything else.
Step 2 — What we need from you
- Your logo and any brand assets you already have.
- Two or three sites you like, and one sentence each on why.
- Any proof we can use: reviews, client names, photographs of real work, numbers you are happy to publish.
- Your current site, if you have one, and what frustrates you about it.
If some of that does not exist yet, we work with what does. Missing photography is a normal starting point, not a blocker.
Step 3 — We write the page before we design it
Layout follows message. We draft the headline, the subheading and the section order first, because a beautiful page saying the wrong thing is worse than a plain one saying the right thing. You see the outline before any visual work starts.
Step 4 — We design the homepage
A full, art-directed homepage design — desktop and mobile — using your content, not placeholder text. Real headlines, real sections, real proof in the right places. Not a wireframe, and not a template with your logo on it.
Step 5 — You review it, once
You give us one consolidated set of feedback and we make one round of changes. This keeps the process quick and honest for both sides, and it is usually enough, because the message was agreed in step three.
Step 6 — You decide
If you like it, we quote the full build and get started with the hardest page already solved. If you do not, we shake hands and part ways. There is no invoice and no obligation either way.
What we ask in return
Two things. Reply within a couple of days while it is in progress, so it does not drift. And be honest if you are talking to other teams — that is completely fine, we would just rather know.
Who this is not for
If you need a five-page site launched next week for the lowest possible price, a template will serve you better and we will say so on the call. This process suits businesses where the site has a job to do and the difference between adequate and good is worth something.
